News: PMC is The Pioneer For Installing the Woodward R-Series Actuator on Yanmar Diesel Engines
The Public Utilities Board (PUB) is the statutory board of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources in Singapore responsible for ensuring a sustainable and efficient water supply.
At PUB Woodleigh Waterworks there are three mobile trailers providing emergency standby power generation to pumping units. Two mobile trailers installed with Yanmar 12SHL – ET engines are rated at 750KW each, while the third is installed with MTU engine rated at 1MW.
The two Yanmar 12SHL-ET engines are installed with Barber Colman Dyn1 10031-002 controllers, Dync 14000 electric actuators, and the load pulse controllers. A recent governor problem which is erratic speed control on one of the Yanmar engines triggered PUB Woodleigh Waterworks to source for Barber Colman DYN1-10031-002 controller spare.
The Barber Coleman (BC) products were acquired by Woodward Inc in 2003. Most BC products were undergone product rationalization including the Dyn1 10031-002 controller and load pulse controller. There are no direct replacements for these controllers, but these can be replaced by other Woodward high performance products with some simple engineering to fulfil the replacement.
In this case, PMC immediately put up an upgrade proposal to PUB Woodleigh Waterworks. PUB Woodleigh Waterworks also sought 2nd opinion from Heinzmann distributor in Singapore. PUB Woodleigh Waterworks management consulted Yanmar’s service provider based on the two vendors’ proposals. Yanmar’s service provider gave their recommendation to use Woodward control system solution for their engines. Thus PMC was awarded the project to replace the obsolete BC Dyn1 10031-002 controllers, Dync 14000 electric actuators and the load pulse controllers with Woodward 723Plus and R-30 electric actuator.
The new control system was installed and commissioned as scheduled. By replacing the obsolete system, a high level of reliability was achieved. Thus, this project was successful, as PUB was satisfied to PMC customized solution.
